GBPN vs Quo(formerly OpenPhone)

Quo is a polished app priced per person, with the features most businesses use spread across its higher plans. GBPN includes all of them for one flat price, with a real person you can call. If you want an AI agent answering your calls, or a HubSpot or Salesforce connection, Quo is a strong pick.

We’re GBPN, so we’re not neutral. That’s why every fact about Quo on this page links to its source: their own website, their help center, their status page, the Internet Archive, or public reviews. Checked October 3, 2026, at monthly prices.

Getting help

It’s a phone company. Unless you pay for its top plan, you can’t call it.

On Quo’s Starter plan, help comes by email ticket. Business adds live chat, 7 AM to 4 PM Pacific. To talk to a person on the phone, you need Scale, Quo’s top plan, at $47 per person each month. Phone support runs Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM Pacific.

Quo’s own blog, in March 2026, said it had “about 12 reps for phone support.”

When a phone line stops working, you don’t want to open a ticket and wait. That is why so many Quo customers end up asking for help in public, on Reddit.

With GBPN

Every GBPN customer can call a real person at (844) 822-2255, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 9 PM Pacific. Rather type? Text or live chat works too.

On the job

Built for office Wi-Fi. Your work happens on job sites.

Calls in the Quo app travel over the internet: your Wi-Fi or your phone’s data. Quo’s pricing page says you can call “as long as you have an internet connection.” On a weak signal, internet calls can lag, cut out, or drop.

In September 2026, a customer posted “Quo is essentially a landline.” Quo’s team replied: “Carrier calling is something we hope to offer in the future.” Some owners in that thread return calls from their personal cell instead.

To be fair, plenty of Quo customers use it in the field with no trouble. It depends on your signal, your phone, and where you work.

With GBPN

GBPN rings your real cell phone over the regular phone network, and the GBPN app at the same time. When you call out from the app, it uses your regular cell service by default and shows your business number. Switch to internet calling whenever you like.

“Call quality on Quo largely depends on the quality of your data connection, whether it's Wi-Fi or cellular.”

How the price grows

The $15 price gets you in. What you need costs more.

Quo advertises “$15 per user.” That is the Starter plan when you pay for a year up front. Month to month, Starter is $19 per person.

The features most businesses use sit one or two plans up. The calculator above shows which plan each one needs.

It wasn’t always this way. In December 2022, OpenPhone’s basic plan included a phone menu and call recording, at $13 per person billed yearly. By 2024, phone menus had moved up to Business.

Quo’s help center says you can’t move your number to another company during the free trial. Once customers know your number, leaving takes planning.

Our read: Start low, let your customers learn your number, then put the features a working business needs one or two plans up. It’s a common software playbook. We don’t think a phone line should work that way.

With GBPN

GBPN has one plan. $30 a month includes the phone menu, call recording, AI call summaries, reports, and phone support, for your whole team.

When it goes down

Outages happen. What matters is what you can do next.

Quo publishes a status page, which is more than many companies do. It shows a full calling outage on July 27, 2026 that lasted 3 hours and 37 minutes, and another on October 1, 2026 that lasted 53 minutes.

In June 2026, an incident broke the message that tells callers they are being recorded, and picture messages failed to send for about two days. In July, a login outage hit, and customers on r/quo said the status page wasn’t showing it.

Every phone service has bad days, GBPN included. The question is what you can do on that day. On Quo’s Starter plan, the answer is an email ticket.

If something goes wrong at GBPN, you can pick up the phone and call us, and talk to a person who can see your account.

Who you’re buying from

Venture money wants growth. Your business wants a phone that works.

Quo, formerly OpenPhone, has raised about $161 million: $2 million in 2020 led by Slow Ventures, $14 million later that year led by Craft Ventures, $40 million in 2022 led by Tiger Global, and $105 million in 2025.

Most of the 2025 money, $96 million, came from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund. It is there “to finance sales and marketing,” and Quo pays it back “plus a capped profit.”

When it rebranded, Quo’s CEO wrote, “We never set out to be just another phone system.” Today its pricing page opens with “Quo Agent is here,” an AI product. Some long-time customers on r/quo say the basics have slipped while the AI features pile up.

Our read: Money like that has to grow fast, and it gets spent on winning new customers and building new AI products. That isn’t wrong. It does shape what gets built, and who it gets built for.

With GBPN

GBPN is family owned by Eric and Kaitlin Turner, self-funded since 2017, with no investors. You pay $30 a month, and we keep your phone line working and answer when you call.

On top of the price

Texting fees, every month, and every time you’re rejected.

US carriers make every business register before it texts from a local number. Quo passes the costs to you: $19.50 once, then $1.50 to $3 every month, and $15 each time a registration is rejected and sent again. Taxes and fees are added at checkout.

Registration is where many small businesses get stuck. On r/quo, a self-employed owner without an EIN called it “impossible.” Quo’s team replied that they “could have told you upfront what’s possible and what’s not.”

With GBPN

GBPN walks you through registration, AI drafts the description from your website, and and you can call us if it gets stuck. We don’t add registration fees to your bill, and your $30 already includes taxes and fees.

“4 rejections on identical generic error, no actionable feedback, $60+ in fees”

“I have exactly what they told me to provide and i still keep getting rejected.”

What Quo customers say on r/quo

r/quo is Quo’s own subreddit. Quo’s blog says two of its support staff moderate it, that they remove “non-constructive negative feedback” and posts about blocked accounts, and that Reddit matters to them because “LLMs cite Reddit threads.” In the thread about the July 27 outage, a moderator explained that a comment was removed because it asked for “alternatives to Quo.” So the complaints you can still read there made it past Quo’s own moderators.

To be fair

  • r/quo has happy customers too. A motorcycle shop, a trucking company with 14 staff, and a law office all said they rely on Quo (September 2026).
  • Quo staff answer most complaint threads, often the same day. Quo says it welcomes criticism and that a thread full of it was “still up.”
  • People with problems post more than people without them. Read a few pages and judge for yourself.

Don’t take our word for it.

Our take

A word on AI agents that answer your calls

An AI agent sounds great from the owner’s side: you don’t have to take the call. Now think about it from your customer’s side. When you need help, have you ever been excited to talk to an AI agent?

Most people calling a small business want a person, or at least a quick call back from one. GBPN is built for that: business calls ring you and your team, voicemails are written out and sent to your email, and missed callers can get a text right away so they know you’ll call back.

If an AI agent is what you want, the company on this page offers one. We just think your customers deserve a human first.

  • Quo’s AI agent, Sona, comes with 1,000 credits a month. Each call uses 100 credits, so that’s about 10 calls.
  • After that, Sona costs $25 to $199 a month for more credits, or $1.00 down to $0.45 for each extra call if you turn on overages. Quo’s help center mentions no spending cap.
  • Unused credits expire at the end of each billing period. If overages are off, Sona sends calls to voicemail once credits run out. Calls under 15 seconds don’t count.
Quo’s Sona overage rates per call: Tier 1 $1.00, Tier 2 $0.75, Tier 3 $0.65, Tier 4 $0.55, Tier 5 $0.45.

GBPN vs Quo questions

Is GBPN cheaper than Quo?

For one person who only needs the basics, Quo Starter is $19 a month plus taxes and fees, which is less than GBPN’s $30. Once you need a phone menu, automatic call recording, AI summaries of your calls, or call transfers, Quo’s price is $33 per person (Business). For phone support and onboarding, it’s $47 per person (Scale). GBPN includes all of it for $30 a month, for your whole team. For two or more people, GBPN costs less than every Quo plan.

Which Quo plan matches what GBPN includes?

Scale, at $47 per person a month billed monthly. It’s the only Quo plan with phone support and dedicated onboarding. For three people, that’s $141 a month plus taxes and fees, compared with GBPN’s $30, taxes and fees included.

Does Quo have phone support?

Only on the Scale plan ($47 per user, billed monthly), Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM Pacific. Business gets live chat from 7 AM to 4 PM Pacific, and Starter gets email tickets. Every GBPN customer can call a real person, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 9 PM Pacific, or text or chat with us.

Does Quo work well away from Wi-Fi?

Calls in the Quo app use your internet connection, Wi-Fi or mobile data. Many customers have no trouble, but some report lag and dropped calls on cellular data, and Quo’s team wrote in September 2026 that carrier calling is “something we hope to offer in the future.” GBPN rings your real cell phone over the regular phone network, and the GBPN app calls out over your cell service by default.

Has Quo raised its prices?

Yes. In December 2022, OpenPhone’s basic plan was $13 per person billed yearly and included a basic phone menu and call recording. Today the basic plan is $15 billed yearly or $19 monthly, and phone menus are on the $33 Business plan. Archived copies of their pricing page are linked in the sources below.

Does Quo have outages?

Every phone service has some. Quo’s public status page shows a full calling outage on July 27, 2026 that lasted 3 hours and 37 minutes, and another on October 1, 2026 that lasted 53 minutes. Its status page listed calling uptime of 99.80% from July to October 2026.

Who runs the r/quo subreddit?

Quo does. Its blog says two of its support staff moderate it and remove non-constructive negative feedback and posts about blocked accounts. The complaints you can read there are the ones that stayed up.

Does GBPN have an AI agent that answers calls, like Quo’s Sona?

No. GBPN focuses on getting calls to you and your team: every recorded call gets an AI summary and transcript, voicemails are written out and emailed, and missed callers can get a text right away. If an AI agent answering your calls matters most to you, Quo is a good fit.

Does Quo charge fees for business texting?

Yes. Quo passes through US carrier registration fees: $19.50 one time, plus $1.50 to $3 a month, and $15 each time a registration is rejected and resubmitted. GBPN guides you through registration and doesn’t add registration fees to your bill.

Can I move my number from Quo to GBPN?

Yes, for free. It usually takes 7 to 10 business days, and your number keeps working the whole time. Start the move with us before you cancel Quo. Quo’s help center says porting out isn’t available during its free trial.

How we made this page

  • We compare monthly-billing prices for everyone, because that’s what you pay if you don’t commit to a year.
  • The top of the page compares GBPN with the Quo plan that includes what GBPN includes, not Quo’s cheapest plan.
  • Every Quo fact links to its source. Quotes are short and unedited, and we leave out customers’ usernames.
  • We say where Quo is better. If you need those things, choose Quo.
  • Prices and plans change. See something out of date? Email support@gbpn.com and we’ll fix it.
