You need a business number. You don’t want another phone bill that creeps up every month.
Fair enough. Some options really are free. Some look cheap until you add the fees. Here’s what each one costs, with prices we checked on each company’s own website on October 20, 2026.
Short on time? Want one flat price with the setup done for you? See how
Why “cheapest” is harder than it looks
- Sticker prices are often annual. The month-to-month price is usually higher.
- Per-person pricing adds up. A $19 plan for three people is $57.
- Fees sit on top. Taxes, texting registration, and add-ons can show up after checkout.
- Free can cost you the number. Some free numbers can be taken back if you don’t use them.
Cheap business phone number options, side by side

Free Google Voice $0. Google describes it as “for personal, consumer use,” and it needs an existing mobile number. Google’s policy says a number can be reclaimed if you don’t use it for 3 months. (Google Voice plans, Voice policy)
Google Voice Starter (one person) $10 a month. Adds 24/7 Google support, and the number won’t be reclaimed for inactivity. Standard is $20 a month and adds a phone menu. Google’s page showed a 50% off deal on Standard for the first 6 months when we checked. Teams also pay for Google Workspace per person. More in our Google Voice cost breakdown.
Quo (formerly OpenPhone) Starter is $19 per user a month, or $15 per user billed yearly. Texting registration is $19.50 once plus $1.50 to $3 a month, and taxes are added at checkout. (Quo pricing)
Grasshopper Plans start at $14 a month on its pricing page. That’s the billed-yearly price. Month to month costs more. (Grasshopper pricing)
TextNow Free app with a free number. Good for a cheap second line. It’s a consumer phone service, so it isn’t built around business features. (TextNow)
GBPN $30 a month total, taxes and fees included. One price for the whole team, and we set it up with you.

What is the cheapest way to get a business phone line?
Free Google Voice is the cheapest. For one person who wants a paid plan, Google Voice Starter at $10 a month is hard to beat on price.
It gets less clear once more than one person answers the phone. Per-person plans multiply. A flat price doesn’t.
Is there a free way to get a business phone number?
Yes. Free Google Voice and TextNow both give you a number for $0. Just know the limits. Google calls its free plan personal use, and free numbers can be reclaimed. Read the catch with free business numbers.
Can I get a free 800 number for my business?
Not usually. Toll-free numbers come with paid plans. Quo includes local or toll-free on every plan, and GBPN offers toll-free numbers from 833 to 888 at the same $30.
How to pick the cheapest option that still works
- Count the people who answer. One person? Look at Google Voice Starter or Quo Starter. A team? Do the math per person.
- Check the monthly price, not the yearly one. Unless you’re ready to pay a year up front.
- Add the fees. Texting registration and taxes can add a few dollars every month.
- Ask who sets it up. A cheap plan you never finish setting up still sends callers to a robot.
- Decide what happens if you leave. Can you take the number with you? What does it cost?
Rather not do the math? Here’s ours

FAQ
What’s the cheapest business phone number? Free Google Voice, at $0. Google says that plan is for personal use. The cheapest paid option we found for one person is Google Voice Starter at $10 a month.
Is a cheap number OK for a real business? It can be. Check whether it can be reclaimed, what support you get, and whether you can move the number later.
Can my LLC pay for my cell phone? That’s a tax question. Ask your accountant. A separate business number on one flat bill makes it simpler to track as a business expense.
Why doesn’t GBPN have a free trial? Free number trials attract fraud, which can hurt number quality for everyone. We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee instead.
